Ingredients:
- 2 racks of pork ribs (about 3-4 pounds each)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (homemade or store-bought)
Steps:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). This low temperature will help the ribs become tender and juicy.
- Prepare the Ribs:
- If the ribs have a thin membrane on the back (also called the silver skin), remove it by loosening it with a knife and pulling it off with a paper towel. This step helps the seasonings penetrate the meat better.
- Pat the ribs dry with paper towels.
- Make the Spice Rub:
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
- Season the Ribs:
- Rub the spice mixture all over the ribs, coating them evenly on both sides.
- Wrap and Marinate (Optional):
- If you have time, wrap the seasoned ribs in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for even more flavor.
- Bake the Ribs:
- Place the seasoned ribs on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper, bone side down.
- Cover the ribs tightly with aluminum foil, sealing the edges to trap steam inside.
- Slow Cook:
- Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake the ribs for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls away from the bones. This slow cooking method ensures the ribs are juicy and flavorful.
- Glaze with Barbecue Sauce:
- Remove the foil from the ribs and brush them generously with barbecue sauce.
- Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and return the ribs to the oven, uncovered, for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce is caramelized and sticky.
- Rest and Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
- Cut the ribs into individual portions and serve hot with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
